| The Church the People Built:
The property for the new parish adjoined that of the Saint Ann Home for the Aged. On June 10, 1950, the parish's First Mass was celebrated in the Home's chapel by Father Michael McNamee, pastor, and members of the community's 120 founding families. Ground was broken for the first parish structure in January 1951. By August, the congregation was celebrating five Masses each Sunday in an auditorium which seated 325 people. In September, the school opened with 200 students enrolled in eight grades.
Staffed by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas, it remained
in existence until May of 1969 when it became financially necessary to cease operation.
