The prophet Micah marvels at the God who is
forgiving,
removes guilt,
does not persist in anger,
delights in clemency,
has compassion again and again,
treads underfoot our guilt,
casts our sins into the sea,
shows faithfulness and grace.
This is not the god of our creation
who keeps score,
who holds grudges,
who punishes,
who reminds us constantly of our
sin,
guilt,
unworthiness.
This is the true God of true God who loves us because God is good and loving and forgiving.
How strong are the bonds between Jesus and his followers? How strong are the bonds between Jesus and his listeners? How strong are the bonds between Jesus and us?
The bonds between Jesus and his followers, Jesus and us are closer than the bonds of kinship, family and blood.
The One who washes us in his blood binds us to himself and to his Father in love.
Today the Son gives us his blood and body today so that his mercy,
compassion,
clemency and forgiveness may feed and free us and make us one.
